Beekeeping Basics
Couldn't load pickup availability
We run a beekeeping operation with around 300 colonies in the Municipality of Meaford and the Beaver Valley. For the past five years, we’ve been working on regenerative beekeeping systems and selective breeding, learning how to work with our bees rather than against them.
This course is for people who are looking into keeping bees and want to understand what’s involved before getting started.
We’ll cover:
- The castes of honeybees and their jobs in the colony
- The seasonal cycles of honeybees
- Where to acquire bees
- The equipment and tools you’ll need
- Basic integrated pest management
- Choosing a location for your hives
- Setting realistic expectations for keeping bees
