Stranks Bee Farm

We put a lot of time, thought and experimenting into our beekeeping equipment. We are not a “beekeeping supply store” but simply beekeepers trying to offer other beekeepers a better option for hives. As such we do not keep much stock. Our process is as follows — You order beekeeping equipment, we manufacture it for you, and let you know it is ready for you.

Summer Nuc

Stranks Family Farms 4 frame nucs typically come with 2-3 frames of brood, and 1 frame of food (honey/pollen).

We don’t buy in queens for our nucs.

The queens and the nucs have grown together in the same colony, not introduced together right before sale. We typically don’t cage or mark our queens.

We are a fully functional member of ORHBS

All of our queens are selected for

- Winter survival

- Spring build up

- Good brood pattern

- Lack of swarming behaviour

- Disease resistance (hygienic testing)

- Low Varroa Growth testing

Our nucs are available for order in January, (join our mailing list to be the first to hear) once we know survival, and are available for pick-up in June depending on weather.

Spring nucs have an overwintered queen that has been proven in a hone producing colony. They were selected from our breeder hives last season

pick-up early June

Summer nucs have a newly hatched and mated queen selected from our breeder colonies this year. We sell test them for a bit to make sure they are laying well.

pick-up late June
